Helen Holland, Leader of Bristol City Council and I are delighted to welcome you to this micro site to find out more about the immense opportunities and challenges offered by the roles of Deputy Chief Executive and Strategic Director of Transformation. Having recently taken up the role of Chief Executive, I want to give you a first hand flavour of what to expect if you pursue an interest in either of the roles.

Bristol is very much a city of contrasts. It is marked by the sheer scale of opportunity and challenges we face – challenges that we as a council are determined to meet with a mix of optimism, leadership and sheer hard work. Looking across the city these contrasts are brought into sharp focus. The city benefits from a highly educated workforce that drives our GDP well above that of other core cites and enables our relative levels of prosperity to be high. Yet at the same time we are all too conscious that this prosperity, like opportunities and aspiration for our young people is not shared by all. Our task as a council is to lead the community in fulfilling its aspirations, yours as a member of our senior team will be to provide the council with the drive, energy and resolve to do just that.

Whichever role you are interested in we are looking for individuals who can prosper in times of change and lead others even through it may feel uncertain and challenging. I want my team to be able to respond to the political lead set by the council, lead our staff towards becoming a modern energetic and committed workforce and work with our partners across the city to ensure that services are relevant to our residents and delivered in an effective and efficient way.
